Atlas Foundation in Baton Rouge hosted people from trips to Turkey for an iftar dinner. Around 60 people attended to this excellent event. After welcoming the attendees, a brief presentation about Turkey and the Month Ramadan was given. At the event, once again people had an opportunity to express their feeling with one another. The program ended with the appreciations of attendees about the event and delicious Turkish food.
On
May 9, 2010 Atlas Volunteers visited Landmark Nursing Home to celebrate
the Mothers’ day with the residents. As a symbol of respect and good
wishes of Atlas Foundation, a red rose presented to each ladies
including care-givers and visitors.
The
young volunteers especially had a wonderful opportunity to learn how to
show their respect and love to the elderly as they presented the roses
by visiting each room.It was a great experience for everybody to realize once again how much our community owes to the elderly.
Atlas Foundation volunteers were very pleased by the welcoming atmosphere at Landmark and hope to visit again.
On
April 13th, 2010 Turkish-Louisianan friendship reception was held at
Camelot Club by the Turquoise Council of Americans and Eurasians in
collaboration with the Atlas Foundation.The purpose of the event was to promote and
encourage good relationship and create opportunities to further enrich our
cultural understanding by bringing together the leaders of the Louisiana and
the members from Turkish parliament. In the opening reception brief information
about Turkey was given, such as being a secular democratic country with
the role of playing bridge between East and West, Europe and Asia.

Turkey at the 13th International Heritage Celebration Sunday, 25 April 2010 - Baton Rouge The heritage of Turkey
embracing the culture and traditions of Turks was presented by Atlas Foundation
at the 13th International Heritage Celebration on April 11, 2010 at the Baton RougeRiverCenter.Turkish folk dance group circulated a
vivacious atmosphere through their fascinating and traditional “Zeybek” “Horon”
and “Halay” performances.
Honorable Congressman Bill Cassidy has visited Atlas Foundation in
Baton Rouge on March 30th, 2010. During his visit, Congressman Cassidy
talked to a group of young Turkish-American professionals and answered
their questions on issues such as Turkish-American friendship,
community building, and healthcare. Congressman Cassidy has also
received some information about Atlas Foundation and its activities.
Heroines of Faith Friday, 23 April 2010 - Baton Rouge On March 25, 2010, Atlas Foundation, in collaboration with LSU Dove Interfaith Organization and LSU Women’s Center, organized the Heroines of Faith: A panel discussion on exemplary female figures of faith traditions at LSU Student Union in observance of Women’s History Month.

The 5th Intercultural Talk series was held on March 20, 2010. The topic of the event was “Traditional Dresses around the Globe”. Dress traditions of Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, Syria and Turkey were introduced. We learned about the favorite styles, and colors and occasions of the dresses in each culture. We learned how to wear sari! Once again, we realized how rich and colorful community we have in Baton Rouge. Many thanks to presenters and attendants for making The 5th Intercultural Talk Series a vivid, delightful and diverse gathering by warming the atmosphere with their unique contributions.

Atlas 2nd Ladies Social Saturday, 13 March 2010 - Baton Rouge Atlas 2nd
Ladies Social was held on March 6, 2010 and it was a great success! We
focused on the topic of “Turkish Folk Dance”. The presentation was
about the different types of folk dances found in Turkey. Each
geographical region has its own unique dances which are a reflection of
the nature and lifestyle of each particular region.
The 4th Intercultural Talk Series was held on February 20, 2010. It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone! The focus of the program was Courtship Traditions in different countries. Presenters Yulya Ersin (Russia), Khadija Mohammed (Nigeria), and Indira Chillara (India) generously shared their courtship traditions with the audience. The audience who are from around the globe also shared their traditions as well. Questions and answers section was very interesting and informative. The conversations in friendly, warm atmosphere let attendants to discover the similar practices of different cultures. Thank you to all the presenters for their great presentations and to all people who join us in this warm, multicultural journey. The 5th Intercultural Talk Series will be held on March 20, at 4pm.
Ladies Social Tuesday, 09 February 2010 - Baton Rouge
The Ladies Social was held on Saturday February 6, 2010. It was a great success. Thank you to all the ladies who attended. The program started with a short introduction of Atlas Foundation, its goals and current programs.
Our first Turkish language class was held on Saturday February
6, 2010. We had about 15 students turned up for the class. In our first class,
students met each other and learnt basic conversational skills and grammar
while practicing them with the instructor. Our classes take place every Saturday

Students
from LSU, Southern, SELU gathered for the spring semester
welcome BBQ. The students met new friends and faculty and
exchanged information about the life on campus and the city. The
program started with a small facility trip.The guests enjoyed delicious
Turkish style BBQ and dessert. The program closed after a short presentation on Turkey and the Atlas Foundation.
First session of Turkish Cooking Classes was held on Wednesday January
20, 2010. As always, we had a great time learning, tasting and enjoying
new dishes from Turkish cuisine.

Haiti Earthquake: a
catastrophic earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The full extent of
the damage is still being assessed, but the death toll -- already in the
thousands -- is climbing fast. This is the worst earthquake
to hit the area in more than 200 years
Henna Night Monday, 09 November 2009 - Baton Rouge Atlas Foundation hosted another Traditional Turkish Henna Party on Saturday October 24, 2009.
Henna night is a special
gathering for the bride and her family and friends. It is thrown a night before
the wedding for ladies only.
6th Annual Intercultural Friendship & Dialog Dinner Sponsored by the Atlas Foundation Sunday, 08 November 2009 - Baton Rouge On Tuesday, October 20th, some 150 members of the community were treated to a Turkish dinner and an evening of entertainment and intercultural dialog at Boudreaux’s, sponsored by the Atlas Foundation and Turkish Cultural Center. The guests, who represented a wide range of people from different socio-economic cultures and religious traditions within the Baton Rouge area, were provided the opportunity to meet, talk and exchange ideas.

The Atlas Foundation is proud to announce, in honor of UNESCO declaring 2007 the year of Mawlana Jalaladdin Rumi, special performance of The Whirling Dervishes of Rumi."The Whirling Dervishes" have drawn acclaim for their unique forms of dance and accompanying reed flutes, drums and chants.
Also known as asure, this unique Turkish dessert is made with barley, legumes, dried fruits, and nuts. Traditional folklore holds that Noah gathered all of the remaining foodstuffs to make this sweet pudding when he and his family left the ark. Today it is customary to share the dish with others.
Traditionally in Turkey, henna night, or kina gecesi is a women's party that usually takes place the night before the wedding. The bride's closest friends and female family members gather to eat, dance, and sing. They put henna on their hands.
Turkish Culinary Art Sunday, 13 April 2008 - Baton Rouge ATLAS foundation has given start to Turkish Culinary Art courses. Friends were invited to a cooking class-get together on Saturday, February 23rd at 2 PM. Menu of the day consisted of musakka (Egyptian style, fried eggplant dish), roasted peppers (Spanish) and asure (Turkish/Middle Eastern, wheat pudding).
